The price indicated here is the wholesale price of electricity as reported by the National Grid. This is the price that suppliers are trading energy at on the intra-day market. This differs from the day ahead price used for indexes like RPD. Intra day prices are highly volative, frequently ranging from zero to £50-£100 per MWh within the same day/week. All prices are in GBP£ per MWh, this can be devided by 10 to give pence per unit / KWh.
This Price is compared on each graph to the different generation types that exist with the Grid. This is useful for showing the relationship between generation and price. Some fuels such as nuclear work best at a fixed level and so are unaffected by price or demand. Other fuel types are only cost effective when prices are high, and this can clearly seen in the various charts.
All prices are in £/MWh and all generation is measured in MW
